The Highlander just missed earning the 2020 Top Safety Pick+ — the highest award the IIHS offers.

To achieve this rating, the Highlander earned the top “good” rating in all six crashworthiness tests. It also earned a “superior” rating for both vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian crash prevention. The available curve-adaptive LED projector headlights were given a “good” rating, while the static LED projector headlights on the Limited and Hybrid Limited trims earned an “acceptable” rating.
